SANTA REPARATA
Poggio della Dogana
Product information
Romagna Sangiovese Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole Doc, Santa Reparata is one of the two cru (m.g.a) of the Poggio della Dogana estate, produced in Castrocaro Terme, in the "le Volture" locality, from Sangiovese vineyards (Romagna clones) 25 years old with 6000 vines per hectare, trained by the spurred cordon system and located 210 metres above sea level. The yield per hectare is 6000 kg, or 1 kg per plant. The grapes, processed under certified organic (EU) conditions, are harvested by hand from individual vineyards. Fermentation and subsequent maceration on the skins takes place in temperature-controlled steel vats with indigenous yeasts. The wine's contact with the skins lasts an average of 24 days; malolactic fermentation follows. Refinement is 12 months in cement vats and a minimum of 3 months in the bottle. for a total of 4 thousand bottles produced each year.
The label features a flower reminiscent of a lion's mouth, a flower as austere and elegant as the wine it represents. It is a drawing by Silvio Gordini, great-great-grandfather on the mother's side of Aldo and Paolo Rametta.
Santa Reparata is named after the patron saint of Terra del Sole, a young woman martyred during the persecutions of the Roman emperor Decius. According to a legend (widespread in Provence and common to that of other saints), after killing her, her torturers put her body on a boat that was set adrift: the boat, guided by angels, arrived in Nice, France, and the body was buried in what later became the cathedral of Sainte-Réparate. Terra del Sole - the locality where Poggio della Dogana is located - dedicates the Palio di Santa Reparata to her every year on the first Sunday of September.
Host information
Poggio della Dogana is located in Terra del Sole, an elevation that in the 16th century served as a boundary point between the Papal Romagna and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Today, the farm spans 20 hectares across the hills of Castrocaro Terme – Terra del Sole and Brisighella, in the heart of Romagna.
The characteristics of the land are crucial for the unique style of our wines: the brown and ochre clays of Castrocaro, rich in bromine, sulfur, and calcium, and the sea breeze blowing from the Adriatic just a few dozen kilometers away to the limestone soils of Brisighella, which impart the unmistakable extension of sapidity.
In the wines and people of Poggio della Dogana, you can sense notes of passion for friendship and love for a land as strong and romantic as Romagna.
