Le Panische

Neither deities nor mortal women, the Panische are mythological beings, mysterious and almost dreamlike. All that is known about them is that they accompanied the God Dionysus in bacchic processions.

The Panische are part of that colorful array of local spirits that populated - and still populate - rural and wild areas in every corner of the world.

The Genius represents the invisible aspect of places, which contrasts with their physical appearance: it is a subtle essence that characterizes a specific location, personified by a non-human entity; in the Roman world, it was represented by satyrs, panische, or nymphs of the places, while in Nordic mythologies, it included elves, kobolds, fairies, or gnomes.
