Host information

Monterufoli, located in the province of Pisa, seems to come out of a dream: more than a thousand hectares of unspoiled nature, ancient trees, a myriad of hot springs and beautiful vineyards, from which are produced: the Vermentino di Toscana IGT and the selection Poggio Miniera Val di Cornia DOC

The farm is located where once there was an ancient deposit of the mine of magnesite and lignite, especially chalcedony, which were extracted from the Opificio delle pietre dure in Florence since the fourteenth century.

Until 1929, it was a cableway and railway station for the mine trains, which had been closed for over half a century. Once upon a time the subjects of Count Ugolino della Gherardesca lived here, the famous character of Dante's Divine Comedy, the ancient lord of these places.

The Monterufoli Estate covers an area of 1,030 hectares of hills, almost conforming to a single body and ranging between 150 and 500 meters above sea level.

On the whole area there are large wooded areas for a total of 900 hectares, where in addition to the predominant species of oak and holm oak there are the typical formations of the Mediterranean as myrtle, arbutus, mastic, juniper and heather.

Very welcoming. Nice insight in the winemaking process. Good wine, good food. Regional kitchen. Made a big effort to accommodate the 2 vegans in our groep and made a very tasty dinner for them.
