Villa Oppi, an ancient Roman post office converted into a winery

.

Villa Oppi, also known as Castello degli Oppi, is a winery located in Alseno, in the province of Piacenza. Its history begins about 2,000 years ago, when it was founded as Posta Romana along the Via Emilia.

Originally, the settlement was open mainly to Roman troops marching to the borders of the Empire. Over the centuries, the mail business was also extended to all travelers, and the company began to grow.

In the Renaissance period, Villa Oppi had a moment of great development. In 1524, the oldest wing of the villa was built, which testifies to the importance achieved by the company at that time.

All food served to passing customers was "Km 0," including wine, which was the main product. Even today, Villa Oppi produces high quality wines, using grapes from its own vineyards.
