Just a stone's throw from the Piave River, in the fertile Treviso countryside, in Rai di San Polo di Piave, lies the winery Ca' di Rajo (Rajo is the ancient name of Rai). A story of winemakers deeply connected to the territory.
The company is surrounded by 90 hectares of vineyards, an ancient chapel dating back to the 1300s, and an ancient tower from the 10th century, the Torre di Rai.
The winery, led by the Cecchetto family, is committed to the enhancement of local varieties and the protection of the Bellussera, an ancient vine training method and unique example of landscape architecture. This form of vine cultivation was developed in the late 1800s.
It involves a wide planting density where wooden poles about 4 meters high are connected by iron wires arranged like spokes. Mainly developed in Veneto, the Bellussera is now endangered due to its high maintenance costs: from pruning to harvesting, everything is done by hand, on a raised platform.
Among the productions of Ca' di Rajo are: Prosecco Superiore Millesimato DOCG Valdobbiadene in Brut and Extra Dry versions, Prosecco DOC Treviso Rosé, Malanotte DOCG, Raboso Piave DOC, Manzoni Bianco 6.0.13, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot.
In addition, there are Marzemina Bianca and Manzoni Rosa (obtained from the pollination between Traminer and Trebbiano), extremely rare local varieties that only Ca' di Rajo produces as sparkling wine.
