Arillo in Terrabianca, owned by the Burkard family, is a prestigious winemaking reality that rises in the heart of the most authentic Tuscany. It is 2019 when Adriana and Urs Burkard start the Arillo in Terrabianca project with the acquisition of the Terrabianca estates in Chianti Classico, Il Tesoro in Maremma and Colle Brezza in Val d'Orcia. The goal is simple and ambitious at the same time: to produce wines with a strong identity and a distinct territorial imprint, thanks to the principles of organic and minimalist viticulture, enhancing those native grape varieties that find their best expression in the lands of Tuscany.
Sustainability is for Arillo in Terrabianca a daily choice that embraces the entire life cycle of the wine, from the soil to the bottle, through an integral approach of respect for the land and in harmony with nature. Arillo observes and analyzes the ecosystem, taking care of the biodiversity and fertility of the soils, working on the grassing of all soils, preserving existing vineyards and enhancing the characteristics of the raw material according to the terroir. There are two fundamental principles of the company's philosophy: exclusive use of elements of natural origin and minimization of human intervention on the soils to recover biodiversity and vitality. The organic conversion process began in 2020 and today Tenuta il Tesoro and Tenuta Terrabianca are fully certified organic farms. The Colle Brezza Estate in Pienza, on the other hand, had already been certified organic for more than a decade.
The Tesoro Estate, located a few kilometers from Massa Marittima, in the heart of the Alta Maremma and the Colline Metallifere Geopark, covers an area of about 115 hectares with an altitude of up to 140 meters above sea level and focuses on natural viticulture and the rediscovery of native soils and agricultural products. The 36 hectares of vineyards, arranged on different heights with mainly southern exposure, enjoy special climatic conditions that allow the cultivation of healthy, fragrant and slowly ripening grapes. Here, along with Sangiovese grapes, international grape varieties, such as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the more recent Chardonnay, Viognier and Vermentino, plantings of white varieties, find fertile ground. Tenuta il Tesoro produces the iconic IGT Toscana Rossi CAMPACCIO and CAMPACCIO COLLEZIONE, wines of impeccable style, freshness and balance. Il Tesoro is the cradle of the BEVO project: DOC MAREMMA TOSCANA wines, modern and fresh, suitable for all occasions. A young and enterprising line, declined in three proposals: BEVOBIANCO, BEVOROSA and BEVOROSSO, wines as authentic as the land from which they are born.
In the Terrabianca Estate, Sacello Chianti Classico Annata DOCG, Poggio Croce Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG and Terrabianca Chianti Classico Gran Selezione are produced, wines faithful to their origins, with articulated structures and capable of expressing the elegance typical of this area of Chianti Classico.
In the Colle Brezza Estate, it was 2020 that inaugurated the first harvest and microvinifications of Sangiovese, Malvasia nera, Canaiolo and Colorino.
