Carmignano DOCG is a great Tuscan red wine, produced in the municipalities of Carmignano and Poggio a Caiano in the province of Prato, not far from Florence. Its origins date back to the time of the Medici, when the Grand Duke Cosimo III de 'Medici selected this area as one of the four in Tuscany dedicated to viticulture. In fact, it is one of the first DOC in the world.
The sunny and windy climate and the particularly fertile soil have favored the constant production of wine and oil. The rebirth of Carmignano took place in the mid-1900s and from that moment it has imposed itself on the national wine scene. Today it is one of the smallest DOCG in Italy.
Carmignano has nothing to envy to the great Tuscan classics such as Chianti, the Nobile di Montepulciano and Brunello di Montalcino. Its rich and articulated blend makes it a unique wine of its kind. Definitely worth trying.
