The particular and unique soil of this hillside, rich in marl (limestone and clay), calcium carbonate, silt and sand, characterises this wine made from Barbera (35%), Sangiovese (35%), Marzemino (20%) and Schiava Gentile (10%) grapes.

The vineyard, perched on the hill of the same name, is made up of a small percentage of 20-year-old vines grown using the spurred cordon system and mainly of ancient, centuries-old vines grown using the traditional Brescian pergola system, but adapted to modern requirements, and therefore pruned short.

The grapes, harvested by hand on 26 September 2017 and gently destemmed, were placed to ferment in barrels for about 14 days, during which we carried out gentle punching down and pumping over.

The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation in medium-capacity wooden barrels, where it continued to evolve and mature for about 18 months. Refinement then continued in the bottle for about 6 months.

Il Gobbio is a wine that is also suitable for long ageing, indeed it evolves and refines further with the passage of time; it should be consumed within 15 or more years.
