The HISTORY OF THE MAESTRI DEL VINO ANTICO
A journey that began more than a century ago through 4 generations of masters who have handed down the passion and commitment to the cultivation of the vine to arrive at the production of "ancient wine".
The history of the Menti winery is rooted in the figure of Giovanni Menti who at the end of the 19th century moved from the Menti di Sopra district to the Agno valley at the foot of eastern Lessinia. Here in Gambellara, with dedication and commitment, Giovanni worked as a farmer on the land he inherited from his wife's family, devoting himself to the cultivation of fruit plants, legumes, and vegetables as well as olive groves and garganega grape vines.
Giovanni passes on all his knowledge regarding agriculture and viticulture to his son Antonio, who despite the difficult years of World War II keeps alive within himself...Thus begins the realization of a dream: to produce genuine wines not only for his own family.
Giovanni, son of Antonio and namesake of the founder of the winery, began working with his father from 1964 at the age of 16. From the early 1970s he began bottling Gambellara, Recioto di Gambellara and Vin Santo di Gambellara wines and will work side by side with his son Stefano until his retirement after reaching the remarkable milestone of 51 vintages in 2014.
Stefano thus approached biodynamic agriculture, which has been introduced in the winery in a practical way since 2010, and in 2011 the winery obtained BIO certification.
